quilting an extra wide/long quilt
  • Any hints as to how to quilt a 116 inch square quilt on a frame that has headers that are 108 inches in length would be greatly appreciated.
  • Karen,

If you are talking about your poles being only 108" the only way that I know you can quilt a quilt that is 116" is by folding part of your quilt over and quilting part of it at a time.

You pin the whole quilt on your leaders then quilt one side half way down the quilt with the excess folded over. Un-velcro and shift the quilt over, fold the quilted side up and quilt that side half way down the quilt.
Now take the whole quilt off and turn it completely around. Velcro it back on and roll to the middle of the quilt and quilt from the center up, then shift your quilt over and finish it up from the center up.

If you are talking about your leaders being too short then you can either purchase new leaders which are 130" long or add some extra fabric to the sides and attache velcro to the top and use that.

    I hope this helps you.
