tension issues

edited February 2013 in Ask An HQ Expert
My problem seems to be that the top thread "jumps" from the spool, creating slack in the upper thread then stitches will skip. The thread sometimes breaks and I will hear a thumping noise. I have rethreaded the machine as well as the bobbin. Also, I have dusted under the throat plate. Please help!

  • Leslie,
Thread on cones are typically cross wound and meant to be used standing where the thread will come off straight above the cone and then through the system. Spools can be stack wound or parallel wound and need to come off the spool horizontally (need horizontal pin). If you have a cone that is cross wound and it is coming off straight up with issues, there are cone nets that might help.
