Where it started

I took a quilting class 25 years ago or more -- all hand applique and hand quilting. I think I made one quilt after that class and tried my hand at reproducing an old family pattern that was a pieced quilt.  Was not too successful.  I decided I did not have either the time or patience to hand applique and I didn't know how to successfully make pieced quilts, either.  So quilting died on the vine.

I did some garment sewing from time to time, but really didn't do much for almost 20 years.

About 7 years ago I decided to get back to sewing -- I was inspired by having a granddaughter ready to start kindergarten.  I wanted to make her some special dresses for school and Christmas.  So the old machine went to be cleaned and oiled and serviced and I set off on a revived interest in sewing.

My husband bribed me into retirement by giving me a SUPER new sewing machine that has embroidery capabilities.  I embellished t-shirts and sweatshirts and placemats and more and REALLY got active in sewing.

Then I saw some quilting and some quilting fabrics that sparked my interest.  And the tools that were new to me in the 20-year absence from sewing made life making pieced quilts much easier.

Armed with a book on quilted table runners, a new rotary cutting tool and mat, I decided to try my hand at machine piecing and quilting.

WOW -- I loved it. And I expanded my horizons.  And I took classes.  And I made quilts for family, friends and charities.  Now I AM a Quilter.  It has become my passion, my creative outlet, my fun, and my stress relief.  I am so glad I re-discovered quilting.
