Need a new sewing machine?
A truly skilled artist or craftsman can create an impressive piece of work even with the rawest materials. After all, quilters from the previous century didn't have much say in the fabrics they used; many of their fabrics were scavenged from clothes that had seen better days, faded curtains, and the like. Having bright new fabrics created just for quilters is relatively recent, compared to the art of quilting. And what a boon it is!
But even though the newest and best tools are not essential to create art, they can certainly make it easier and more fun! And they can lead to a finished product that is very impressive. Considering this, I want to spend the next two glog entries talking a little bit about some of the tools we offer that can improve your quilting... Bernina sewing machines and the HandiQuilter machines.
Oh, sure, you already have a sewing machine. Who doesn't? Even if you prefer to quilt by hand (and we'll talk more about that in the next entry), piecing everything together by hand can be tedious and error-prone. You might even already have a Bernina that you're happy with.
But the latest Berninas are really worth a look. For instance, the Bernina Artista 730 uses Microsoft Windows as its operating system and allows you to download designs (with the optional modem) directly from the Artista Internet portal. Imagine, a sewing machine with an operating system! They've come a long way in the past ten years! It also offers the Bernina Stitch Regulator, which ensures even stitches regardless of sewing speed. My favorite part: the separate winder motor for bobbins. I hate having to stop my project in order to wind a bobbin--well, this way, you don't have to! You can also set up default settings and program the Favorite Function button, so that the machine remembers your personal needs. Unbelievable! The newest model, the Bernina 830, is even more impressive.
